Varsity Wrestling Head Coach

Josh Frie has dedicated more than two decades to the sport of wrestling, including 14 years as the head coach of the Minnetonka High School wrestling program. His coaching career spans multiple states, beginning as an assistant coach at Eau Claire Memorial High School in Wisconsin, followed by four years at Falcon High School in Colorado, and four additional years as an assistant at Minnetonka before taking over the head coaching role. In 2016, he was recognized as Section Coach of the Year for his leadership and impact on student-athletes.

A former collegiate wrestler, Josh competed for four years at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for teamwork and camaraderie. He remains connected with many of his former teammates, reflecting his belief in the lasting relationships built through athletics. His coaching philosophy centers on building character and instilling integrity, while partnering with staff and the community to challenge athletes to reach their full potential and make a positive impact beyond the mat.

Josh graduated from Mondovi High School in Wisconsin in 1997 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, along with a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Concordia University, St. Paul. He currently teaches mathematics at Minnetonka High School and is involved in the Momentum Aviation program. Josh lives in Chanhassen with his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Mitchell and Maevery.
