David Lu

Wayzata Badminton Head Coach

David Lu brings a strong international and collegiate badminton background to his role with the Wayzata High School Varsity Badminton program. A graduate of Tartan High School (2022–2025), Lu trained extensively in China and Singapore, gaining valuable global experience and competing in interscholastic tournaments throughout Southeast Asia. During his high school years, he represented his school in major badminton hubs including Jakarta, Bangkok, and Singapore, developing a high level of competitive skill and cultural perspective within the sport.

At the collegiate level, Lu competed as a member of the Penn State Collegiate Team, contributing during the season in which the team captured the Yonex Eastern Collegiate Team Tournament title in Fall 2019. His playing experience at both the international and collegiate levels informs his coaching approach, emphasizing technical excellence, strategic play, and mental discipline.

At Wayzata, Lu is committed to building a program grounded in the core values of Passion, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Effort. He strives to create a positive and competitive environment where student-athletes grow not only as players, but also as teammates, leaders, and individuals. Under his guidance, athletes are encouraged to challenge themselves, support one another, and represent the program with pride both on and off the court.
