Head Coach

Kent Hamre is a veteran basketball coach and educator with nearly three decades of experience shaping student-athletes both on and off the court. Currently serving as the varsity head coach for STMA Girls Basketball, Hamre has led programs for 21 years as a head coach and brings 28 years of total coaching experience. His coaching journey began at the middle school level in Win-E-Mac from 1986 to 1990, laying the foundation for a career defined by consistency, leadership, and competitive success.

Hamre’s accomplishments include seven Section Coach of the Year honors, two State Coach of the Year awards, and induction into the Coaches Association Hall of Fame. As a player, he was part of the Erskine Comets team that captured the District 30 championship during his junior year—ending a 36-year title drought. That experience helped shape his coaching philosophy, which centers on building confident, hardworking, and unselfish players. He emphasizes effort, accountability, fundamentals, and team-first play, while fostering a culture where athletes feel valued and challenged to improve. For Hamre, winning is important, but personal growth, strong culture, and doing things the right way always come first.

Off the court, Kent has been married to his wife Angie for 36 years. They have two daughters, Brooke (Annandale) and Tori (Otsego), and are proud grandparents to six grandchildren: Grace, Millie, Morgan, Cade, Emme, and Benson. The family also includes their dog, Gabbee.
