Minnetonka Girls Golf Head Coach
Sara Martinson serves as the Head Coach of the Minnetonka Girls Golf program, bringing a decade of coaching experience and a deep passion for the game. A former high school golfer at Paynesville, she capped off her playing career with a memorable state tournament appearance her senior year. While she did not compete at the collegiate level, she went on to earn her Class A PGA membership before transitioning into education and coaching.
Martinson has built one of the premier girls golf programs in the state. Under her leadership, Minnetonka has claimed three Lake Conference championships, made three state tournament appearances, and achieved back-to-back third-place finishes in 2023 and 2024 before capturing the state championship title in 2025. She has also been recognized twice as Section Coach of the Year.
Although her focus is now on coaching, Martinson remains connected to competitive golf, with recent highlights including participation in the MGA Senior Women’s Match Play and a club championship victory at Pioneer Creek Golf Course.
Her coaching philosophy centers on developing the whole student-athlete. She emphasizes skill development and confidence-building, encouraging players to grow both physically and mentally. Martinson prioritizes character, expecting her athletes to demonstrate integrity, resilience, and kindness. She instills respect for the traditions and values of the game while fostering a competitive mindset aimed at success at every level. Just as importantly, she promotes team unity and ensures her players enjoy the lifelong benefits and joy that golf can provide.
