Keith Johnson

Varsity Softball Head Coach

KJ Johnson is a dedicated and experienced coach currently leading the varsity softball program at Edina High School. With over 11 years of coaching experience, Johnson has built a reputation for developing competitive, disciplined teams and fostering well-rounded student-athletes.

Before joining Edina, Johnson coached at Benilde-St. Margaret’s, where he led the 9th-grade baseball team for four years, and at St. Paul Academy, where he spent four years coaching junior varsity softball. His breadth of experience across multiple programs has contributed to a strong foundation in player development and team building.

As a student-athlete, Johnson was a standout at Harlan Community Academy, earning four varsity letters in both baseball and football. He was a three-time All-Conference selection in each sport, demonstrating excellence and consistency across his high school career. He continued his athletic career at Concordia University, St. Paul, where he was a member of the 2003 NSIC Conference Championship team.

Johnson’s coaching accomplishments include four Section Coach of the Year honors and a conference championship in 2017. His coaching philosophy emphasizes sound, aggressive defense, intelligent baserunning, and offensive versatility. He encourages his teams to execute small ball effectively while also developing the ability to hit to all fields, creating a balanced and adaptable approach to the game.
