Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach

Josh Ortmann is the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Buffalo High School, where he has led the program since 2016. With over a decade of head coaching experience and 14 years overall, Ortmann has built a reputation for developing competitive teams grounded in discipline, accountability, and character. Under his leadership, Buffalo has maintained a strong presence in Minnesota high school basketball, earning him Section 8 Coach of the Year honors in 2023 and Section 6 Coach of the Year in 2026.

A 2007 graduate of Buffalo High School, Ortmann was a key member of the school’s Class AAAA State Championship team. He continued his basketball career at St. Cloud State University from 2007 to 2011, where he helped lead the Huskies to an NCAA Division II Final Four appearance in 2011.

Ortmann’s coaching philosophy centers on high expectations in all areas of life—on the court, in the classroom, and within the community. His program emphasizes accountability, daily discipline, and a commitment to personal growth. He prioritizes developing not just skilled athletes, but young men of integrity, toughness, and selflessness who are prepared to succeed beyond basketball.

Outside of coaching, Ortmann is a dedicated family man. He is married and has two children, an 8-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.
